When most other flowers are dormant, Hellebores are in full flourish and blooming beautifully.  These flowers are typically available from late autumn through early spring, though this may vary depending on seasonal temperatures and trends. Hellebores are hardy perennials that thrive in cold weather climates.

In larger bouquets, Hellebores work wonderfully as secondary focal flowers — or even as fillers! — adding dimension and depth from every angle.

CARE

Hellebores have a good vase life, often lasting 7-10 days if properly conditioned and cared for. The blooms themselves are relatively strong and sturdy, but their stems can be a bit brittle and require special care to ensure longevity in arrangements. Hellebores should be handled with care to avoid damaging or snapping the stems. 

To condition hellebores, trim the stem at an angle with a clean, sharp tool. This will help to maximize the surface area for water absorption. Then, dip the cut ends of the stems in boiling water for about 30 seconds to help them soak up water better. In caring for Hellebores, remember to strip any leaves that fall below the water line in the vase to prevent bacterial growth.  Refresh the water every 1-2 days, recut the stems at an angle, and use flower food to extend the vase life of your Hellebores.
